IT’S summertime and the saving is easy! Once seen as a poor second to the January Sales, this year the summer sales are bigger and better than ever.

Big names including Debenhams, John Lewis Ikea, Reiss, Topshop and Nike are all slashing prices by up to 75 per cent this week, so we’ve teamed up with TopCashBack.co.uk to reveal how to hunt down the very best bargains.

Natasha Rachel Smith, Consumer Affairs Editor for TopCashBack.co.uk said: “The sales are the best time to get a bargain, but they can take a little bit of navigating to find the best deals. Simple things like using price comparison websites before you hit the shops and layering sale prices with vouchers can help you get the most for your money.”

But before you get started, make sure you’ve entered today’s Scottish Sun Savers code to put even more cash back into your pocket.

We’re giving away a free fiver every month to each and every Scottish Sun reader that signs up to our new Sun Savers club.

Simply download the free Sun Savers app or go to sunsavers.co.uk to get started.

Top Ten Summer Sales Hacks

Plan – Have a list of the things you want to buy so you don’t get carried away and overspend.

Check online – Compare prices across different stores and whether it’s cheaper online or on the high street. Remember to look for discounts and cashback for extra savings.

Time your arrival– It’s best to shop late as shops offer extra reductions towards the end of the day. But visit shops in the order of the items you want the most as items sell out quickly in the sales.

Dress appropriately – Clothes shopping? Wear a slim fitting and leggings/trousers so it is easier to try things on without having to change or visit the fitting rooms.

Take a large strong bag – Carriers cost money, rip and are a struggle to carry when you have more than three or four to haul. Use one big sturdy bag instead.

Bring snacks and water – Don’t buy pricey food and drink when you’re out. You can always munch homemade snacks in the till queue to save time.

Be vigilant – Check around the sales racks for items that may have fallen and look in the fitting rooms for clothes that may have been returned.Don’t forget hidden discounts– If an item is dirty or slightly damaged and you still want to buy it, ask for a non-returnable/non-refundable discount to get a further reduction.

Know your rights – See http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/what-are-my-rights-when-i-shop-in-a-sale for your sales chopper rights

Be friendly – Remember shop assistants can point you towards the best savings, so smile and be kind.
