TESCO has launched a one hour delivery service but only for shoppers living in central London.

From today, customers can order up to 20 items from a range of 1,000 products via the Tesco Now app.

Tesco shoppers can now get orders within one hour – as long as they live in a central London postcode
Shoppers can order a range of items including fresh fruit, vegetables, store cupboard food and pharmacy items

Delivery costs £7.99 but there is no minimum spend to place an order.

It is only available to customers in some central London postcodes between 8am and until 11pm on weekdays and from 9am until 11pm at weekends.

If shoppers don’t mind waiting a bit longer for their order, then two-hour delivery costs £5.99.

In May, The Sun Online revealed how Tesco was trialling the one-hour delivery service in London.

Money saving blogger Tom Church, founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, uncovered the new service trial when he spotted a courier delivering Tesco bags.

Tom, who lives in London, placed an order after he managed to download the top secret app.

The UK’s biggest supermarket is trying to compete with Amazon’s Prime Now service which offers one hour delivery in selected postcodes, including London, Newcastle and Birmingham for £6.99.

Customers can also get free delivery with a two-hour or same-day delivery slot.

The app is now live for customers in central London to use

To place a Tesco Now order you need to download the free app from the iOS or Android store.

The items include fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, bakery goods as well as pet, baby, health and beauty products.

Items are picked in a local store and delivered to customers via moped within 60 minutes.

A spokesperson from the supermarket said that there were no plans to roll it out nationwide but that it would “monitor customer feedback and demand.”

Adrian Letts, at Tesco, said: “From forgotten essentials to that crucial final ingredient, Tesco Now can get them to our customers’ door within the hour.

“Shoppers’ needs are changing and we want to offer a range of services that allow them to shop with us in a way that suits their needs. We look forward to hearing what they think of the new service.”
