Shoppers furious as Poundworld fills shelves with stock costing more than £1

SHOPPERS have slammed Poundworld after it started filling shelves with products costing more than a quid.

The more expensive items are mixed up among its £1 offers — baffling many customers.

The scheme, introduced in the last few months, gives shoppers “even more value”, says the chain.

But Claire Dowle raged on Facebook: “Are you just trying to trick us pound shoppers out of money?

“May be time to either rethink the pricing structure or rebrand as something not (as) misleading as Poundworld! You’re essentially just another shop now!”

Another angry customer tweeted: “What the hell? Why does Poundworld suddenly have stuff that’s not £1 all over its shelves?”

The chain has previously sold a few “non-£1” items as manager’s specials.

But they were always put in their own section of a store.

Offers now placed next to its usual quid items include Johnson’s Bedtime Baby Oil for £1.50, Surf Fragrance Release washing liquid for £3, and Dairy Box chocolates for £4.

Poundworld said the pricier goods were brought in as a result of customer feedback.

A spokesman added: “We stock over 6,000 products priced at £1 and will continue to do so. We are simply extending our range.”

Poundworld is the UK’s second-largest bargain store chain with more than 350 shops and 7,000 staff.

A majority share was sold to US firm TPG for £150million in 2015.

Market leader Poundland started routinely selling items for £1-plus in October.
